Dr. Ewa Bardasz Honored with the SAE International's Rodica Baranescu Award for Technical & Leadership Excellence in Commercial Vehicle Engineering

WARRENDALE, Pa., May 6, 2014 -

Dr. Ewa A. Bardasz, retired Engineering Associate of  Exxon Research & Engineering and  Technical Fellow of  the Lubrizol Corporation, has won SAE International’s Rodica Baranescu Award for Technical & Leadership Excellence in Commercial Vehicle Engineering.  The award was presented at the SAE World Congress Awards & Recognitions Ceremony: Honoring Excellence.

Established in 2011, this award celebrates the successes of women in the engineering profession and to recognize their leadership and technical contributions in the Commercial Vehicle Engineering sector. The award serves to broaden the awareness of the reach and impact of women working in the mobility engineering profession. Its goals are to stimulate the involvement of women in engineering as well as open doors for young girls interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) activities who wish to pursue engineering careers. Dr. Rodica Baranescu is an SAE Fellow, Past President of SAE International, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. She is a mechanical engineer who started her professional and academic career in her native country, Romania, before immigrating to the United States in 1980. In 2000, she was the first woman elected President of SAE International.

Dr. Bardasz has accumulated years of technical and leadership experiences in different capacities and organizations. This includes working as an Engineering Associate at the Exxon Research & Engineering and as a Technical Fellow at the Lubrizol Corporation. Her technical expertise includes energy technology, environmental engineering, internal engine technologies, advanced lubricants and fuels, tribology, surface engineering, and advanced materials. She is a technical contributor to the field of ICE lubrication and tribology, actively promoting developments of novel environmentally friendly engine lubricants capable of maximizing efficiencies and extending the life-long durability of exhaust catalyst systems.    

Dr. Bardasz is an SAE International Fellow and a STLE Fellow. She has published numerous technical peer-reviewed papers, contributed chapters to technical books.  She also holds more than 25 U.S. and international patents covering a diverse range of topics related to crankcase lubrication, corrosion protection, and advanced materials. Dr. Bardasz delivers invited professional seminars on success strategies for women technical/managerial career opportunities, the lubrication of IC engines, technical approaches to improve engine fuel consumption, and technical challenges faced by implementing novel alternative fuels. She has delivered more than 150 presentations in global technical meetings and to nontechnical audiences. She has a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Case Institute of Technology and a MS in Chemical Engineering from Warsaw Technical University. In February 2014, Dr. Bardasz retired from Lubrizol to pursue a new stage of her professional career as an independent consultant.
